Forschung
Der Hauptakzent der Forschung liegt heute in der klinischen Erprobung der künstlichen Bandscheiben an der Hals- und Lendenwirbelsäule, ferner in der Behandlung der Spinalstenose sowie der Osteoporosefraktur.
Die Spinale Chirurgie hat am Universitätsspital Basel eine lange Tradition. An der Orthopädischen Klinik wurden im Laufe der Jahren mehrere Implantatsysteme entwickelt.
Prof. Stefan Schären ist seit dem 1.7.2014 Chefarzt der Spinalen Chirurgie.
Prof. Bernard Jeanneret, Chefarzt der Abteilung für Wirbelsäulenchirurgie von 1996 bis 2013, entwickelte zusammen mit der AO 1993 den CerviFix, ein Implantatsystem zur dorsalen Stabilisation von Instabilitäten an der Halswirbelsäule.
Prof. Walter Dick, Vorsteher der Orthopädischen Klinik bis 2008, entwickelte ebenfalls in Zusammenarbeit mit der AO 1982 der Fixateur interne zur dorsalen kurzstreckigen Stabilisation von Wirbelfrakturen der thoracolumbalen Wirbelsäule.
Prof. Erwin Morscher, Vorsteher der orthopädischen Klinik bis 1995, entwickelte in den Achtziger Jahren zusammen mit der AO (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthese) die ventrale Verriegelungsplatte an der Halswirbelsäule sowie die Haken für die Stabilisation von Spondylolysen an der Lendenwirbelsäule.
Das Basler Labor für funktionelle Biomechanik (BFBL) wurde 2015 gegründet und bündelt die Expertise in der humanbiomechanischen Forschung sowie in der orthopädischen Chirurgie und Sportmedizin und wird von Prof. Dr. Annegret Mündermann und Dr. Corina Nüesch geleitet.
Das BFBL ist Teil der Orthopädie und Traumatologie (Vorsitzender Prof. Dr. Daniel Rikli) und der Spinalen Chirurgie (Vorsitzender Prof. Dr. Stefan Schären) am Universitätsspital Basel, Schweiz. Das BFBL befindet sich im Bettenhaus 3 des Universitätsspitals Basel.
